Why do you think, in the book “Where the Red Fern Grows,” Wilson Rawls had Little Ann and Old Dan both die?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:03 am
This book was really awesome.I even read ahead.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:06 am
I loved this book but it was very sad. When Old Dan died it really made me upset to think about poor Little Ann, and how she wouldn’t eat, which finally made her die. How do you think Little Ann felt losing Old Dan?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:07 am
Towards the end of the story when Little Ann and Old Dan died it really triggerd my emotions. I felt so bad for Billy. He saved up for 2 years and only had them for a few years.
How would you feel?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:09 am
I agree with Billy’s father because you need more than just reading and writing. You also need to know math, science and social studies. You also need to be ready for the world, like knowing directions and knowing how to read a map.

Kayla-
I would feel just horrible! My neighbors dog, Griffin, died last year and I was so heart broken, it’s so sad.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:11 am
This book was really good.Old Dan would be a loyal dog to have as a pet.Frankie could not be a hunting hound. He would just antaganize the coon!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:12 am
Makaylah-
I would almost feel like all that money was a waste, but to Billy it wasn’t because Little Ann and Old Dan saved and changed his life!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:12 am
I really liked the part in the book where Billy went to get his pups. I like this part because he went far into the woods, an d over the Ozark mountains to the depot to get his pups. That proves he was really despret for his dogs. Would you ever do this for something like that?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:13 am
I also wonder why Wilson Rawls had a very emotional ending. Maybe it had something to do with his childhood. Maybe it was to show us how the dogs gave up there lives for Billy and how the dogs loved him so much. Why do you think Wilson Rawls ended the book this way?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:14 am
Austin-
I would do anything to get a dog.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:16 am
Like lots of other people think I think it’s sad that Old Dan and Little Ann died. I wonder why Wilson Rawls did that.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:16 am
Where The Red Fern Grows is very sad because when Old Dan dies Little Ann suffers from a broken heart. She misses him and then she won”t eat because she always waits for Old Dan to eat then she eats with him. Then Little Ann dies from not eating and missing Old Dan. I feel sad, how do you feel about Little Ann and Old Dan’s friendship?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:17 am
I think Billy’s dad is correct there is more to an education than reading and writing Billy was very intellegent in other ways. He could think of ways to catch the coons and out smart them. One example is when he was hunting the ghost coon and realized he could have gone into the hollow pole.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:18 am
I agree with Billys dad. There is a lot more to an education than just reading and writing.Dont forget about math, social studies, and other subjects!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:18 am
Sienna-
Little Ann and Old Dan had a very strong bond with each other!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:18 am
Isabela-
Maybe something did happen to him in his childhood
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:20 am
I liked Little Ann because she was so smart and no coon could outsmart her. Also, I think Old Dan was the bravest dog because he fought a mountain lion. Why did both Little Ann and Old Dan have to die? This was the best book I’ve ever read!I’ll read it again and again!I can’t wait to read our next book!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:21 am
Melissa-
The money really was almost a waste. I mean he saved up for 2 whole years and the dogs almost only lived for two years. So I guess it was even with the years and lives. I still feel bad because he waited so long for it and then it just faded away. At least he had them long enough to face some of his fears.Like when he fought to save his pups life. Way to go Billy!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:21 am
My favorite characters in the book ” Where the Red Fern Grows,” are Old Dan and Little Ann. The two hounds are my favorite because, I love animals so much and I can’t believe the two pups die! I really don’t like them because they die, but I had to write that. Sorry!
Who is your favorite character and why?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:22 am
I think their is more to an education than just reading and writing because you need to know how to write books,do science,do math,do Social Studies and ect.I did’nt like the book because it was very very sad because Old Dan died and Little Ann died of a broken heart and Old Dan died because he risked his life for Billy.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:22 am
I think they should get a good education and move to town. They need to be literate to get a good job . He may be somewhat smart . Do you think that was a good idea for them to move?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:23 am
I think Billys dad is right. There is more to eduacation than reading and writing. If somone couldn’t read or write that wouldn’t mean they aren’t smart. There is much more to an eduacation. How do you feel about what happened to Old Dan and Little Ann?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:23 am
I would be heart broken if one of my pets died.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:24 am
You also need to know how to do math and etc.to make a living.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:24 am
Bobby-
I agree with you because there are a lot more subjects besides those!!!
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:24 am
I think his dad wasnt entirely right or wrong but I wouldnt want to move my child to a place were he got beat up by kids that are supposed to be his friends .Would you move Billy?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:25 am
I agree.Billy’s dad is right about reading and writing, that it’s not the only thing you need to know. You need to know math and other things. ex: You need to know how to count so you need to know math.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:27 am
I agree with Billy’s dad because there is more to life than hunting. When Billy gets older he might want to get a good job and he needs a good education to get a good job.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 7:29 am
I do agree with Billy’s father about theres more to an education than just reading and writing. I think that because there is math, science and that stuff that Billy needs to know.
Do you think the legend of the Red Fern is true? Why or why not?
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 2:57 pm
Isabela-
I wouldn’t move my child to a place where He or she would be an outcast to all the other children in that school. But like you said there were Pros and Cons to moving where the children could get an education.Pro-they would be able to get a education. Con- they could posabably be outcasts to the other kids at the school,- name calling, physicle activite, etc.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 3:00 pm
Hannah-
That is very true Hannah. There is more to life than hunting, and someday when Billy needs to get a job he’s going to need proper education to do such. So yes I agree entierly, Hannah,.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 @ 3:03 pm
Bobby,Sienna-

I think Wilson Rawls had Old Dan and Little Ann die because it shows how strong a bond can be between a person and his or her pets. Old Dan and Little Ann loved Billy so much they risked their lives for him. It also shows the bond betwwen the two dogs Little Ann was so upset and wouldn’t eat until it became the thing of her death. Do you think it would happen with any other animals you know?
